Chennai Express joins 100 crore club
'Chennai Express' has made over 100 crore in the opening weekend of its release. The film, which managed to achieve the feat in 4 days, is the fastest Hindi film to reach Rs 100 crore
1. '3 Idiots'
The Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer, which released on December 25, 2009, took nine days to earn Rs. 100 crore. '3 Idiots' is the highest-grossing movie in the history of Hindi cinema with earnings amounting to Rs. 202.47 crore
2. 'Ek Tha Tiger'
The Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer, which released on August 15, 2012, took five days to earn Rs. 100 crore. The spy thriller, which saw Salman Khan in a never-before-seen action avatar, went on to garner Rs. 198.78 crore
3. 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'
The Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer, which released on May 31, 2013, took seven days to earn Rs. 100 crore. The romantic drama, which saw former girlfriend Deepika pairing up again with Ranbir, went on to clock in Rs. 188.57 crore
4. 'Dabangg 2'
The Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha starrer, which released on December 21, 2012, took six days to earn Rs. 100 crore. The much hyped actioner, which saw Salman Khan playing good-hearted inspector Chulbul Pandey again, went on to collect Rs. 155.00 crore
5. 'Bodyguard'
The Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer, which released on August 31, 2011, took seven days to earn Rs. 100 crore. 'Bodyguard', which was the Hindi remake of a Malayalam film of the same name, went on to earn Rs. 148.86 crore
6. 'Dabangg'
The Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha starrer, which released on September 10, 2010, took 10 days to earn Rs. 100 crore. The well received actioner kicked off Salman Khan's domination over the Bollywood box-office and went on to garner Rs. 138.88 crore
7. 'Rowdy Rathore'
The Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer, which released on June 1, 2012, took 11 days to earn Rs. 100 crore. Helmed by Prabhu Deva, 'Rowdy Rathore' is the only Akshay Kumar film in the 100 crore club. The film's lifetime earnings is Rs. 133.25 crore.
8. 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'
Shah Rukh Khan entered the 100 crore club with 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. Yash Chopra's last film, which also starred Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, took 11 days to earn Rs. 100 crore. The romantic drama's lifetime earnings is Rs. 120.85 crore
9. 'Ready'
The Salman Khan and Asin starrer, which released on June 3, 2011, took 14 days to earn Rs. 100 crore. The widely panned film replete with Salman-isms went on to garner Rs. 119.78 crore
10. 'Agneepath'
Karan Malhotra's remake of 'Agneepath', which was an ode to the Bollywood potboiler of yore, took 11 days to earn Rs. 100 crore. Though the film, starring Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt, was not a patch on the original 'Agneepath', it earned Rs. 115 crore.
